Cheticamp Martial Arts

Founded in September 2024 by the Doherty family, Cheticamp Martial Arts was created to bring world-class martial arts training to Cape Breton in a way that’s accessible, inclusive, and community-focused.
"Just Walk Through The Door"
Our mission is simple: to empower individuals through martial arts, fostering a community built on trust, perseverance, and mutual growth.

Community – We grow stronger together, on and off the mats.
Connection – We build relationships that last a lifetime.
Confidence – We help every student believe in themselves.

At Cheticamp Martial Arts, giving back isn’t an afterthought — it’s at the heart of who we are. From self-defense seminars and school visits to festival demos, community BBQs, and supporting local fundraisers, our students and coaches are proud to represent Cheticamp everywhere we go.

For beginners, 2–3 classes per week is ideal to build consistency and see results. Many students train more as they advance, but we always encourage a pace that fits your schedule and goals.
Yes! Every new student can try a class for free. It’s the best way to experience our community, meet the coaches, and see if martial arts is the right fit for you.
You don’t need to be fit to start — training will help you get there. Our classes are beginner-friendly, and you’ll build strength, stamina, and confidence at your own pace. Many students come in with no athletic background and quickly discover how capable they really are.
